It is indeed sad when one who has been proven wrong has to hope for future tragedy to eventually be proven right in some way. I don't get it.

He goes from a picture of one person kissing a marine to sarcasticly saying "they hate us." I don't doubt there are plenty of iraqis who like the US coming in and being their shining white knight on horse back. What I dislike is propaganda and things being drawn out of proportion. If I was too harsh it's because of all the shit they pass as "news" on TV.

The fact is that Iraqis are more and more welcoming the coalition as liberators. It's been going on for weeks and it's becoming more and more frequent as the citizenry of Iraq becomes more secure in the knowledge that Saddam is gone. It's in every newspaper, news magazine, and tv show available to the public.

I wonbder if we're watching the same newspapers, news magazxines, and tv shows... what I've been seeing for days from non-embeded reporters inside the city is people swearing they will die before they welcome the US soldiers, and wholle avenues full of people holding rifles and chanting anti-US slogans. Weird how the people cursing the US at every bombing or residential neighbourhood, the crowds dancing on the fallen aeroplanes and destroyed tanks are somehow, I don't know, non-existant, while one person and a crowd of 400 people cheering at the statue of Saddam falling is somehow some sort of great achievent. Also think that everybody who would fight for Iraq, would not welcome the US, or decided to pick up his rifles to fight the invaders, is either dead, or fighting, and would not be seen in the secure areas, where the cheering goes on.

How did his post imply that he was hoping for those things? They were merely predictions.

Look, as I said in another thread, it might be worth not believing anyone has been "proven wrong" until the long-term effects are seen.

After all, my doubts that Iraq would be any better off under an American millitary dictatorship in the long term were my personal reasons for not supporting the war, so I personally haven't actually been "proven wrong" yet.

You make my "Internet Infidels' Most Punchable" list. Well done!

My $0.02: The majority of Iraqis, regardless of how they feel about the war, will just keep going along with their lives, just as they did under Hussein's rule. I even think that a percentage of Iraqis (from the groups who were actively oppressed by Hussein's regime) will be happy.

The minority which bothers to take up arms will be the ones we have to worry about.

edited because I really shouldn't post after lunch. zzzzz
