99Percent, before you do anything join a local astronomy club. That is the best advice for any beginner. So often I have seen people get the bug and spend thousands only to re-spend it all later or leave the hobby in frustration. Amateur astronomy is not about equipment, it is about observing the heavens. You can't buy that. The best way to get it is to join a group of dedicated amateurs.
