I didn't choose to be gay. At least I didn't mean to choose to be gay. Next time, I'll be a lot more careful about reading the fine print on credit-card applications.

How could anybody choose to be gay unless he/she already felt attraction to the same sex, i.e. was a gay already.

Of course, I guess that a basically bisexual person could choose to express his/hers sexuality in purely homo- or heterosexual way, but such persons still would probably be attracted by members of both sexes. Would this still be counted as a gay?

Religions propagate in two ways:

1. Be fruitful and multiply
2. Kill unbelievers

Both are commanded in the Old Testament (as well as in the New, though less frequent)

All the homosexual-abomination laws and the like are just because homosexual relationships usually do not lead to precreation and thus no further propagation for the religion.

All Christians opposing gay relationships are just acting out on what the virus they're infected with tells them to do to further propagate the faith. The programme is to wipe all who believe differently off the face of the earth evantually. Everything else is just a rationalization of this simple truth.

My purpose in the overlong post you referred to was not to support one position or another, Rico; but only (if I remember aright) to transmit some of the um unsubstantiated historical/sociological assertions I'd picked-up heren'ere.
Chances are, most of the (many kinds of ) IRON BOXES (e.g. marriage, gender roles, add others at will) wh. the Roman Catholics's selfappointed boss-group, and a considribble number of other self-appointed (conservative) Custodians Of Human Morality and Divine Law need so badly to insist upon retaining ---- the Iron Boxes are going to rust away, and fragment and become less & less meaningful, bit by bit, will they nill they.
As with many other outgrown/outmoded human (social) habits (Atchoo! Gesundheit!/God bless you!), the forms & their repetitions will probably persist long after their meanings have been emptied-out & lost.
Probably a large number of frivolous young females will still opt (AND their Mummies) for the enormously-obscenely-costly white/virginal *CHURCH* wedding BECAUSE they perceive it as the theatrickle MAJOR event of a woman's life. An enormous contemporaneous Potlatch, destroying Capital, to prove how important & rich you the father of the Bride are.
So the religious sects maintain their hold over humankind who love the delights of being-SPECIAL. And a propos de tout ca, notice that the oldfashioned fraternal organizations seem to have lost their hold over the presentday young. Think of the Knights of Columbus in their swords & capes & britches & plumes; and the Shriners in their red (of course!) fezzes, riding their little toy cars & motorcycles , popping wheelies in parades; and the Eastern Star ladies (et tutti cuanti) whose great annual event is Installation Of Officers, in which EVERYBODY gets a glamorous polysyllabic title which they retain for life "Past Noble Grand" etc; an occasion to DRESS-UP in long evening gowns, corsages, veils & crowns; to cook & eat for hours; to write & nervously deliver speeches to tumultuous applause; to carry-out complicated meaningless rituals..... Remember Amos& Andy & the Kingfish; and the Mystic Knights of the Sea?

Entering the exclusively-male priesthood lets you show-off to the Max = dress-up in silks & gold and DO what nobody else can do! Why has this lost its appeal in First-World countries? (Those kids can buy CARS!) and "the Cheuch" now recruits priests among the poor "black" males of the Third World.....

I meant to ask this question earlier but was probably too afraid to.

When AIDS first emerged, for the first decade or so, it was predominately more common amongst the homosexual community. Being at secondary school at the time, most AIDS jokes were aimed directly at gays and how fast AIDS spread amongst the gay community.

Didn't the initial increased prevalence and spread in the male gay community of AIDS indicate :

a) Easier transmission of the AIDS virus via anal sex ?
b) Increased promiscuity amongst the gay community ?

b) Probably.

However, it's not necessarily a homophobic observation. Anyone who has a lot of unprotected anal sex with strangers is at very high risk for HIV, gay or straight, male or female. It's just a blood-borne pathogen, like any other blood-borne pathogen, and HIV transmission rates do not reflect on homosexuality per se -- just on the stupidity of irresponsible behavior.
