Thumbs up The Second Coming

I doubt they will ever show it on American TV, but a brilliant message of non-belief has just been broadcast on British prime time TV.

The two part series by Russell T. Davies (a gay atheist TV/screen writer) proposed that the son of god comes down to earth and promises the end of the world unless the "Third Testament" can be produced. At the end of the second program the son of god kills himself (with arsenic laden pasta) to rid the world of religion. The world is thus saved.

No wonder the established church didn't want the two part series broadcast.

The final spaghetti eating scene was the best affirmation of non-belief I've seen in the popular media for a long time. And the best thing is, millions of people in the UK watched it.

UK atheists - did you watch it? I nearly cheered at the speech about the world being a better place without religion. Did you?

Yep, I watched it. I was hoping there would be a good twist at the end, and my secular prayers were indeed answered!

Hurrah for scepticism...I am so chuffed.

By the way, the 2-part series is available on VHS and DVD (additional footage with the DVD, of course!). From this I take it that someone is making certain that The Second Coming will have a wide dissemination.

Completely off-topic... is "chuffed" a good thing, then? The only other time I've heard it was from the Chaos Crew on Scrapheap Challenge/Junkyard Wars. They were from Yorkshire, and I thought it was a bad word.

Thanks for the clarification. Honestly, I couldn't understand a thing the Chaos Crew said, but they built a really cool machine. (And set their build area on fire. Always a bonus!)

*sniff* I wanna see it. Isn't Russell T. Davies the guy behind the original British Queer as Folk?

lol, well we do have to put up with less quality fare...such as Coronation Street and Eastenders, not forgetting to mention, of course, such delights as The Antiques Roadshow and Ready, Steady, Cook :-D
