Red face Two weird Christian things in an hour

Within the last hour, two strange Christain related things have happened.

First, I was driving home from work this morning when I saw a green truck in front of me with a Jesus fish on on it. It had in place of an eye, a cross. However, my immediate reaction was that it was a dead fish. (If you place x's or +'s where the eyes should go in a drawing it means the thing is dead.) When I realized my mistake, I thought of how appropiate that a symbol for Christianity was mistaken for a symbol of death.

When I got home, I checked for my mail. All I got was a flyer reading "Prophesy for Dummies." It has a pitcure of a creppy looking horse with a skeleton riding it holding a skull stuck on a stick. Grace Evangelical Free Church is offering a free Bible seminar on the endtimes.

It will answer questions like

"Is the Bible's version reliable?"
"What's going on in the Middle East? Is Islam in Bible prophesy?"
"Who is this Antichrist guy I keep hearing about?"
"Will Jesus really return or is that just wishful thinking?"
and "Lots more"

"Please - come and glimpse a glorious new future with us?"

Christianity and death seem to go hand in hand and they all think of it as "a glorious new future."

But of course it isn;t fear of death that drives Christianity, right?

P.S. I was going to post this in the Elsewhere forum, but the board said I wasn't allowed for some reason.

Damn right it is--Christianity is the most death-affirming religion on the planet (Islam comes a close second).

"Please - come and glimpse a glorious new future with us?"

Yet. Christian. Only they could consider the end of this world and the mass torture of most of the people around now and in other ages as glorious.

A funny thing happened to me when I finnaly said: i am an atheist. The hole week I kept bumping into furniture, I fell 2 times, and hit my head (resulting into a black eye). A voice from the back fo my head kept saying: "what if god is sending you a message, maybe you are wrong, what if...."

But the next second I would say "silly rabitt, fairy tales are for kids" the REAL reason was that I didn't do much sleeping, reading all night the II library.

Hi niggle,

Users can't start topics in ~~Elsewhere~~ any more. They can comment on them once they've been moved from elsewhere to ~~Elsewhere~~ by a moderator.

There should be a thread in the ICR discussing the change.

cheers,
Michael

If you can't use sex to sucker them in you have to use the next most powerful emotional inducement - fear. If a supernatural religion comes along that uses both, we atheists are in big trouble.
