Somewhat disagree as yes there is a lot more to morality than virginity. ( NO I do not believe sex in and of itself is immoral). The key is Mature, Informed, Ready ... to delay those strong impluses and peer pressure I think does indicate a sense of morality that a least the individual attaches some significance to the act and it's consequences.

I do admit my own sense of regret & guilt influences that judgement.

Agreed. I started having sex before I hit the apparently magical age of 18. My partner and I were consenting, well informed, and careful. Nobody else was harmed in the least (and neither were we). How on earth is that immoral?

However it mostly because I now actually think .... that I choose to be celibate.

(In spite of people like me)

With what is protrayed in the media and this being the Internet Infidels ... I am pleasantly surprised .... I guess it further proves disblief or non-belief in God is not an indicator of morals.
You're assuming waiting on sex is the moral thing to do.

Had the right situation come along earlier I would have taken it. I waited until 20 because that's when I found someone I wanted. Had I met her 2 years 11 months earlier (age of consent) I think we would still have ended up in bed.

I am 35 and am still waiting for the day I get married. If that never happens, I willl wait until I die. Sex, to me, is not the reason for existence. It is an added benefit for those who choose to be married.

Just my thoughts,

Kevin

I seriously doubt you are going to get married.

Sex is an important part of a relationship. I can't imagine marrying someone not knowing whether we are compatible in that manner beforehand. No, its not everthing or really all that important in the grand scheme of things, but differing sexual "personalities" are likely to kill any intimacy in the relationship at early on. Intimacy is the key far as I'm concerned and sex plays a role.

you dont need to be married to be able to have an intimate emotional bond, so why discourage the culmination of that emotional bond?

I'll take this idea one step further. Sex is an enjoyable recreational activity. The existence of an "intimate emotional bond" makes it better, but is not required.

Hey Kevin, can you tell us why you think sex is something that should be limited to marriage? WIthout quoting any ancient books, of course.
