I don't play many console games, and I'm not sure what category to put it in, but I thought Soul Reaver was excellent, particularly for its time. Some of the block puzzles were a bit repetitive but the puzzles that required you to work your way back and forth from the shadow world to the real world were quite clever.
I also liked that you had to figure out how to beat the bosses rather than just twitch them to death. Bookman |

2D Action - Contra (PS2)
3D Action - Metal Gear Solid II (PS2) RPG - Xeno Gears PS1 (you have to love all the anti-religious stuff) FPS - PC games like Q3 and Half Life are sooo much better than console games Horror - Resident Evil (first one for PS) Sports - Grand Turismo PS2 (not a huge sports fan) Fighting - Tekken Tag (hands down the best fighting game) Puzzle - Tetris (multiple systems) |

Final Fantasy IV, Dragon Warrior IV, Final Fantasy Tactics, Phantasy Star II (I could write a 2-page list of these, but I'll leave at my 3 absolute favorites...) 2D action game?
