Ahhh, this post reminds me of why I became self-employed.

Actually, in my case the problem wasn't just the usual incompetence, mediocrity, and beaurocracy. I had to deal with an abusive manager as well, and the mediocre, incompetent, beaurocratic fools in HR didn't give a rat's ass.

Regarding office supplies, when you're the only one who knows the way around the department storage closet (the good closet with the computer stuff in it, not the one full of pens and whiteboard markers the secretary buys), those supplies are very, very free.

Given my current status regarding buying a house etc I can't just quit.
