Default The Dishonesty of Senator Bill Frist

In an article that appeared in the Kansas City Star on Tuesday January 7, 2003 Senator Bill Frist is quoted as saying that when he was in medical school he adopted cats from Boston animal shelters promising to give them a good home.

He then practiced surgery on them resulting in their death.

He mentioned this in his autobiography.

Is this all you can come up with?

Animal shelters kill thousands of animals that they can not place. At least they were put to good use.

This not what animal shelters do.

This is whether or not the Senator is a self-admitted liar and a fraud.

He is.

Yeah, so he lied about experimenting on cats. Not good, but not a death knell for him, either. Many politicians have told little fibs about things and many of them still enjoy respect. I guess I would rather not have any lying but I can stomach it in some fringe cases like this more than if it has more of a bearing on his public life.

After all, Bill Clinton lied about Monica, but then that lie was nothing compared to the lies we're fed every day. Why people waste so much time on these little nitpicks when much bigger deceptions float by all the time I can only guess. Perhaps it is easier to wrap your mind around a simpler white lie than a horrifying war secret or some corruption that really impinges on humanity in destructive ways.

This reminds me of the time that my step-father brought me to a farm where he talked this hippy girl into allowing us to adopt a calf. He spent about an hour discussing caring for this calf and how we were going to give it a good life, etc. This whole time Im thinking we are getting a new pet, but we get home and next thing you know, he has the thing strung up and butchered. It was quite a disturbing time for me.
I do not find such deception minor, to me it can only come from a very sick mind.

I think you are all missing the point.

He was adopting pets from a shelter under false pretenses and then performing various mutilations. These acts were not part of any sanctioned cirricullum and were not endorsed by his med school. There are laws that prevent people from doing things like this.

If this is in fact what happened he is guilty of a heinous crime of abuse of animals and he is guilty of fraud. I am not sure of the laws in Missouri but in many states these actions are felonies and he would be prosecuted and possibly serve prison time.

There is no law against disecting a cat. I can buy one today just for that purpose, there are some regulations on how I must treat the animal but thats it. None of these laws were in effect when Frist did this, let alone any animal rights BS.

If a doctor in training aquires animals to better understand anatomy physiology more power to him. The whole medical science was built on digging up fresh bodies from graves to learn from.

So he lied about what he was going to do with the cats big deal. Everyone has told a lie to get something, society would cease to function otherwise.

So what? I'm sure he did learn something from it.

But I do hope he used pain killers on the cats. Otherwise he's to sick to be a senator. Make him president!
