Default Bush admin vs science

don't know if anyone linked this before, but it's a great site:

http://www.house.gov/reform/min/politicsandscience/

"At the request of Rep. Henry A. Waxman, the minority staff of the Government Reform Committee assessed the treatment of science and scientists by the Bush Administration.

The report Politics and Science in the Bush Administration (.pdf) finds numerous instances where the Administration has manipulated the scientific process and distorted or suppressed scientific findings. Beneficiaries include important supporters of the President, including social conservatives and powerful industry groups.

This website is an ongoing record of interference with science by the Bush Administration."

Sadly not a shock. Bush's recent stem cell bullshit is just the latest example. He actually came out and said that there can be no more new stem cells harvested and a genetecist on NPR claims that of the '60 usable stem cells' we have, only 3 or 4 are likely to actually be usable.

Bush's famed alternative energy research is bullshit too... he's given plenty of money to research but zero to development, i.e. we'll be researching the idea of moving away from fossil fuels but nobody's footing the bill for actually making it practical.

It's run by the minority office of the Committee on Government Reform, and the minority party happens to currently be the Democrats.

The Republicans do this too. In fact, here's an archived page from the Republicans from 1998, thanks to the Wayback Machine:

How the Clinton Administration Is Threatening the EconomyAnd Could Wreck It
One of the ironic bits about this report is the last paragraph:
Quote:
Failure to Reduce Debt While annual deficits are now under control, the United States carries a $5.5 trillion debt that is still growing. Interest on the federal debt is currently $356 billion per year, with interest rates on 30-year Treasury notes at historic lows. If interest rates increase, the cost of U.S. debt service could turn the entire federal budget deeply into the red, causing still more borrowing and putting even more pressure on interest rates. The remedy is to reduce, not increase, the federal debt, but Clinton spending plans are a very real threat to this objective.
