I agree that there is more to our thinking than logic and therefore rationality isn't always the result.

That being said, this may not be an obvious conclusion for everyone, and the reasons for this seeming lack of rationality are still worthy of discussion. Furthermore, the value of rational thinking is certainly a debatable topic.

"religious morons"

This is a serious spelling mistake. Two synonyms should not be used right after each other in the same phrase.

Well, I read once that our brains are "hard wired" to belive in a god/gods/diety/whatever.

I can't remeber the source, but I think it may have been Macleans.

People *aren't* really rational. This should not suprise anyone, by now.
I don't think anyone should have to apologize for stating what they believe, however offensive it might be to those who don't share the belief. I often refer to people as morons, for numerous reasons. It's something I do. I think I'm super smart and cool and "in the know", and people who think differently are idiots.

I'm not kidding.

I grew up in a fundamentalist xtian cult which most of my relatives are still a part of, and I think they're all idiots. I love them, I love their children (my nieces and nephews), etc. but I think that they are morons. I don't "make allowances" or "tolerate" their beliefs. Screw that. Religious "tolerance" is why, IMHO, we have people who blow themselves up in town squares. I say step one toward peace on Earth is to outlaw religion. But hey, that's just me.

I don't care what your excuse for being religious is, if you can't present a reasonable argument in defense of your beliefs, I'm not interested in hearing you speak. And if you can, I'd be impressed, 'cause I sure haven't heard one yet.

Incidentally, that was a general "you". I didn't mean to point the finger at any particular posters here.

I have the same argument for my religion that I do for my belief that I have free will; I have primary experience that makes this seem true to me. What else, in the end, is there?

A bit Over the top ... but Hey .... Honesty is cool .... However outlawing religion is not a solution I agree with .... Not sure it is a method that a "Civil Lbertarian" would normally endorse

Plus just wanted to bump up the last thread on this Forum

Reality, seebs, reality.

No matter how you and the likes of Amie take offense at atheism or humanism or realism...the theistic assertions are blatantly based on fantasy.

They are replete with supernatural tales the likes of LOTR and Harry Potter cannot ever hope to compare...and yet, theists hope to posit, without even a giggle, that their myths are true.

Atheist and theists may poke each other with sticks all day long, yet, when the sun goes down...reality prevails and it has nothing to do with vengeful sky kings, wizards, talking animals, and hot virgin mommas.

Neither camp will ever be huggy feely with the other, so we should all get past that.

To encourage the pretense of respect, when there is none, is even more inane and offensive than remaining silent on the issue.
