I think Adam is supposed to be an actual man and Eve is supposed to be an actual women...

Genesis 3:16
To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

1 Timothy 2:11-15
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing - if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Or perhaps God and Paul weren't talking literally...

Adam and Eve were created but never formed. In Gen. 2 man was formed out of clay and woman taken from man to be the womb of man. In Gen 3 Adam and Eve were created but were never formed.

My Timothy says that Adam was created first.

Yes, it is just my interpretation.

Amos:
So is Genesis 2 lying about the man, Adam, being "formed"? <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

OK Amos, I get what you're saying now (I think). My original post about the fruit was an attack on the literal interpretation of Genesis, not the metaphorical.
I was saying that if the fruit was what gave A+E the moral sense, then it would be unjust for Yahweh to punish them for eating it, because the concepts of right and wrong would be meaningless to them until after the crime was commited.
It would be sort of like convicting someone of an ex-post-facto (I think that's what its called) crime under the American system.
However, this point does become irrelevent if you consider Genesis to be an allegory. The same thing goes for the river question as well.

No it is not lying. Your preacher was lying and if you read carefully Adam was never formed, nor was Eve, but man and woman were formed in Gen.2.

The word Adam and Eve should not appear in Gen. 2 and if it does you should burn it because it will be misleading throughout and might even send you to hell.
