Default Score! Got any good deals lately?

I think I saw a thread similar to this one before, but what the hell I'm starting another one.

I went to the library today and found out they were having a book sale out front. I got there about 30 minutes before it was over, and a huge thunderstorm was forming overhead. The librarians told me to get whatever I could before they starting putting the books away before the rain started. They handed me a box and I started throwing anything I thought was remotely intresting in the box. Before all the books were put away I had a box stuffed with 25 widely varying books on many subjects. The total price was only $4. Most of the books are hardcover, several are very old books of classic literature. I also picked up a few religious themed books, such as an old book that claims to disprove evolution. I probably won't read all of them, but its a cool little reference library. I thought that was a damn good deal, because even if I don't read everything I'll still have countless hours of entertainment for a very low price.

Anyone else got a super cool deal lately?

I think my wife holds the record in this regard. It was the end of a church bazaar and there was a lot of stuff left. They were selling clothes for a dollar a box. Somewhere she found a box that had once held a fairly large TV. She and her parents filled it up and dragged it to the car (it was too heavy to lift). I put the stuff in the car and she went back and filled it again. I had to drive home with the car full of her pickings and then come back for them!

Got some $160 400 thread count cotton sheets for $80 just after buying a queen sized sealy mattress for $350 off.

My work is paying for my education, and I plan on (ab)using their computer loan to get $2500 interest free for 2 years.

I filled up the car at .649 a litre. It's not much of a deal but it's better than a swift kick in the nuts i guess.

I've got a poor man's surround sound system. And I wanted to upgrade a bit, my front speakers were only 10 watts together. So I was online last night checking out prices and stuffs. Then I went store to store, and got to Target. There I found a Sony MHC-MG110 system. 150 watts, dual tape deck, 60 CD holder/player. some serious bass, the obvious AV inputs, but check it out, it also has digital optical outputs!. It was on clearence, and then I got 15% off that because it didn't come with a box, remote, or instructions. Got the whole thing for $80 with tax included. Runs very nicely, and it was a great deal.

I had a new air conditioner installed on Tuesday, complete with all new ductwork and a programmable thermostat.

At the end of the day, when I was writing the check, the guy who was in charge of the install said "you know...you got a smoking deal. There's no way we could do this much work for that price..."

Ahh, the "friends & family" discount!

Sorry to disappoint.

Actually I've since got another great "score" from my brother, but I'll leave it at that.

I just bought a brand new powerbook from ebay, and saved ~$500 (and tax free!) off of the apple price. So I'm excited about that.

The sweet 12" one, with the superdrive and all. Now I just need an airport (not the extreme though) and a kickass case. I'm thinking about one of those big aluminum ones.

Then I can get a black suit, trenchcoat, handcuff my laptop to my wrist, and I'm ready for the foreign service.
