Thumbs down

Quote:
. . . that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image . . . .
The sackbut, predecessor to the modern trombone, was invented in the 13th century. The name is from the French sacqueboute which means literally, "push-pull".

One has to wonder how the people in Daniel's time were aware of this venerable brass instrument, and how they knew what the medieval French would call it.

Likewise, the cornet is decended from the Post Horn, which appeared in the 14th century. It could not have been played in Daniel's time.

The psaltery and dulcimer were also unknown to ancient Hebrews. The Hebrew word nebel is often translated as dulcimer or psaltery, but the ancient Hebrew instrument had no sound box and was more like a harp or a zither, and the strings were not struck with mallets.

That's a little bit messed up.

He does have a point that there are good and evil types of music, though. I think everybody can agree that the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync were created by the devil to torment mankind. <img src="graemlins/boohoo.gif" border="0" alt="[Boo Hoo]" />

Good grief, mankind has not progressed as far as it seems from the man-ape cowering in a cave and shrieking at the thunder. People like this help us to keep this in mind, at least.

That depends on how you play it Kally! Do you dress up in a tux? Or do you wear one of those slinky siren song type outfits, and sprawl across the top of the baby grand?

I love to sprawl across the top of a baby grand wearing a slinky dress, but it makes it so hard to reach the keys!
