hooray and hallelujah! Of course, as this cartoon clearly shows, we can't just stop with evolution when it comes to our public schools!

If you read the opinion in McLean v. Arkansas, a creationism decision that followed Michael Ruse's testimony having to do with demarcation arguments, and then read Larry Laudan's criticism of the McLean opinion and demarcation criteria in general, you'll start to get an idea where the IDers are coming from. They want a legal definition of science that makes room for the argument from design, an ancient philosophical argument for the existence of god, that will allow ID into the public school curricula. How could it be any other way - the IDers really have no empirical evidence or research program to support their claims. So they depend on tinpot philosophical and legal arguments. |

Sad.
But school board elections will be coming around soon enough, and I think that this one will go the way of the Kansas idiotcy, especally if ID is taught as science. doov |

I think it was a writer in The Nation who had a funny remark after the first Kansas decision: Well, on the plus side it means my kids'll get the good jobs.

National Center for Science Education reviews of Denton's Nature's Destiny:How the Laws of Biology Reveal Purpose in the Universe http://www.ncseweb.org/resources/articles/Spieth-on-Denton.pdf Another review: Nature's Destiny: From the impossibility of evolution to the inevitability of evolution: http://home.planet.nl/~gkorthof/kortho29.htm Creationists and IDists always FAIL to mention this reversal. This book, unlike the evolution-basher he wrote, was not a best seller. |

Bill Craig is, or used to be, based out of Emory. (Though I don't think he had a faculty appointment there).
So he was probably tight with the local forces of know-nothingism and got called in to give a sales pitch. He would be very effective in the absence of prepared rebuttal. Whatever else he is, Craig is fabulously slick with public presentations. |
