Obviously I'm a careless reader. I just read your post concerning the dialog in Texas so my previous suggestion has already been carried out. I agree with you that this is a better format for an exchange of ideas. Also, I think "Does God Exist" is not a good topic since even many on the christian side admit that they cannot prove the existence of god and most Atheists admit that they cannot disprove the existence of god. I think religious history would be better. Rational debate on the evidence. Anyway, I enjoyed the debate and look forward to seeing more of them.

If I may, I think that live debates are a poor idea. Scientific research demonstrates that people evaluate the positions based entirely upon the entertainment value of the two participants.

We are not evaluating the views as much as we are evaluating the people -- as if to say that the most charismatic participant must have the most accurate position.

I believe that the only type of debate that has real merit takes place in writing, where an individual has the opportunity to research what he has to say, and where it is easier to put rational argument in front of entertainment.

I would like to see a national debate. A group of scientists, from all disiplines, and a group of creationists. Not a twenty miniute debate, but something much more involved. a week, a month. All arguments should be done point by point. Take for instance the claim of some creationists that the earth is slowing down by a second or more a year. This has been debunked over and over, but some continue to use it. It would be great if we could reffer to the debate and say,"Look, every major creationist has admitted this is wrong". At least it could reduce the amount of frivilous arguments that abound.

I don't think I had heard about the earth slowing down but it is a fact I think that the Moon is receeding from the earth.

The earth's rotation is slowing down, just not at the rate that creationists use in their arguements.
