Default strange happenings with my computer loging onto the secular web

When I got home from work tonight I opened up MS explorer and got a bit of a shock. I had switched over to MS 2000 pro from 98 several months ago and the guy that did the install for me had done a clean install, so all my old favorites had been removed from MS explorer in the process. I had just a few that I had added to the new favorites list. All the old one have suddenly just reappeared on my favorites list, and none of the new ones are there. I tried to log onto the secular web and it didn't have me loged on automaticly as usual. It had lost my password so I sent for a new one. Then my word program wouldn't work. Have any of you ever had such a thing happen to you or know how that could happen? Also my dogs were acting funny, like something was wrong in the house, but nothing is missing. I reinstalled word and 2000 to no avail, the word program still won't work. Also my netscape browser is gone to. Anybody have any suggestions for what to do next?

This question does not appear to be IIDB related and BP&C allows only admins and mods to respond. I'm going to move this thread to Misc Disc where it might have a better chance at getting helpful responses.

Sounds like a profile switch. In Documents & Settings look for profiles directory. There is All Users and Default User and whatever else has been created on your machine. You may have to enable viewing of hidden folders. Each profile will have a Favorites folder, do a search. Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm on a Mac right now, windoze is at work.

edited: At work now. It's even easier than I remembered. In Documents & Settings, each profile is listed and there is a Favorites folder in each. Look thru the Favorites to find what you want and move them all to the Favorites in the profile you will most likely be using the most. HTH.

I have documents and I have settings, but they are not together as you describe here. Where in 2000 pro is this at? I'm not much of a computer wiz, so perhaps I'm missing the obvious here. I did switch from adminstrator back to my name in the users and passwords file in the control pannel, could that have done it?

Also I have reloaded my word program, but it still won't work. I get a window that says WINWORD .EXE has generated errors and will be closed. I also get a message that says that what ever word file I try to access has been removed or is inacessable, even though when I open up my whole documents folders they are all there. Should I remove works entirely and install it again?

I'd vote for a reformat. I just hope you back up your personal data... If not, then let this be a lesson to you.

Don't know about pro since I use 2k server. Try searching for folders named Favorites. Also, when ever you load software do it as the administrator, and if asked, load for All Users. If you uninstall software, do it from the Control Panels -> Add/Remove Programs.
