Question Maybe someone here knows...

Why is it that the first sip of beer tastes really good to me but then any subsequent sips the taste is different and unpleasant? I have been trying beer for the last 30 years and they all start out tasting good but then quickly become unpleasant tasting. Now I just take a sip of my mate's beer and don't even try more.

As the beer warms up and loses carbonation, the flavor changes significantly. I think the bitterness (hoppiness) comes out more when the beer is flatter and warmer. I personally prefer less hoppy beers as I get tired of the bitterness while others really like it.

IME, having a salty snack whith the beer can counter the bitterness and can bring out the body of the beer. Chips, nuts, cheese, etc, are good sides.

Just like wine, beer is an acquired taste and it's usually a matter of finding one you like and going from there. Flavors vary wildly. Something like an Oatmeal or Chocolate Stout, Hefeweizen, Cherry Wheat or even a Lambic might be more to your liking.
