Do you have Skylines over there in Australia, Anachronix?

NonHomogenized, an old boss of mine has a Caprice; I had to drive that piece of s... quite a bit for him, as if my job description was chauffer. That car handles like a boat on land. Of course it sure didn't help that the shocks were shot on it.

Here is a car I want...

Yep...plenty of Skylines over here, but they're all 'Grey Imports', that is they are not officially sold here by Nissan but are imported and complianced by private companies.

From what I've read on American car forums the term "Skyline" is usually used in reference only to the GT-R, and rarely to the 'lesser' models. True?

That's correct; a Skyline is a GT-R here, generally. We don't get the Skyline in any shape or form except from companies that import them. I hear the Fast and Furious sequel has 5 of the 10 R34s in the USA, bastards.

Hey, Mr. Swope, what do you think of these numbers:

582 hp @ 7,600 rpm, and 495 lb-ft of torque @ 5,600 rpm

Ain't a Mustang putting those numbers down, bud. It's a 4 door, a Subaru WRX STi...running on 4 cylinders and 2.5L of displacement.

I'm amazed the %&*#$&in' caprices can make it around a corner. I drove a GMC 3500 with a cap for construction work on it (and with almost 500 pounds of quickrete in the back, and that handled better than the caprice I drove. Not by much, but it did.

As for the lotus, I wouldn't mind any good condition lotus

I run a 99 Accord V6 Coupe. It's a good car that moves when I want it to

I really do enjoy hitting the VTEC profiles on straight-aways.

If I had it to do over at this moment, I'd go for the new evolution, or a WRX.

I'm currently driving a '98 Mustang convertible.

While it doesn't hold a candle to my old Triumph GT6 in the cornering department, it isn't all bad. At the very least, you get some bang for your buck. I bought mine used a couple of years ago. For the same price, I could've got a new Escort, Cavalier, Neon, Civic, or Corolla. Mmmm...

As far as "wet dream" cars, there's a couple...

I got to drive a Boxster S around a short road coarse at a local track once. While a bit lacking in acceleration, the handling is unbelievable! Mid-engine cars rock!

For sheer speed, I'll go with a Winston Cup car. If you ever, ever get an opportunity to drive one of these machines, pay whatever amount of money they're asking! I did about 20 laps around Phoenix International Raceway at around 160 mph, and I will never make another disparaging remark about Nascar drivers. Wow. Freaking wow!

Your survey allows only one choice.

I drive

Sportscar (general use)

Truck (camper for travelling)

Motorcycle (when in the mood)

jayh,

The poll asks "What type of motor vehicle do you prefer?".

Don't you prefer one over the other two?

Not really directly comparable, because they each for such entirely different purposes. That's why I have more than one.

Really? Check out the modular forums at Mustangs. There are some 2 valve stangs doing that, and some DOHC's putting out much more. Then look at the numbers on the Fox Platform (1979 to 1993).

Or go to More Mustangs and check out the "Terminator" forum. Nitrous Pete is putting out way more than that.

In addition to these daily drivers, several racers are getting well over 1,000 hp on that platform. Never mind all of the ancient 302 pushrod Mustangs pushing more than that Subaru. BTW, which color STi do you have?

As far as handling goes, stock, it depends on whch Mustang you have been in. A V-6 is pretty bad out of the box, but it can do real good with the right suspension parts. A GT handles much better, and a Cobra will handle even better with the stock suspension. "Speed is just a question of money. How fast do you want to go?"

So go ahead and Mustang bash all you want, Daggah. Then when you get old enough to drive daddy's car, I'll meet you halfway at the dragstrip in Commerce Georgia and we can stage up. Losing timeslip pays for lunch and the track fees. Then we can motor over to Road Atlanta and settle the handling discussion. Loser pays for supper. And be sure to bring your allowance, it could get expensive.
