I'm bowing out of the thread. With this quote from Bubba you can probably see why:

Quote:
Bubba wote: You misunderstand: I'm asserting that the belief that the universe is all there is makes it impossible to do the right thing for its own sake, because there's no way to derive from that belief there is such a thing as "the right thing."
I would've thought that "the right thing" would have improved our chances of survival as well as the social group we belonged to? How do we know it's the right thing unless it has benefits? Is is "the right thing" to sacrifice your life for a stranger at the expense of your family?

How can he make this assertion without having absolute knowledge that there is a god? Anyway, I don't have the patience or the knowledge to deal with this guy. Thanks again Nowhere for coming over.

You're welcome - my pleasure!

The guy is a positional warrior and not a seeker of truth, imo. I continue the dance in hopes of planting seeds in the minds of some of the readers.

Besides, I like Star Wars. When I get time, I want to find out why the Jedi's don't vanquish an enemy by using the force to pinch the enemies thalamus, or something. They have telekinesis, so why not?

Btw you were doing fine. Long live freethought!
