Oh, ok. Lots of cannibals thought it was pretty tasty, not to mention Jeffrey Dahmer.

If they ever succeed in cloning muscle tissue without cloning the whole animal, so it's possible to have meat without killing, I bet they'll be a market for people who want to try some humanburger...(anyone ever read the comic "transmetropolitan?")

I've always wondered...when a person is beheaded, wouldn't their brain still operate for a split or more seconds?

If so, then would they have seen the basket weave? Heard the crowd? Known for just a bit what was happening after their head was detatched?

Or, would 'instant' death, in this case, really be instant? I suspect not, I think they would either be cognizant for a tiny bit, or self protection would kick in and they would 'pass out'.

I'm really not a morbid person, but I've always wondered this, and whenever I've brought it up to folks, they shrug, or just know less than I do about brain function.
growing up in the old country,(Czech rep)I've heard a story that back in the days, when people used to be executed by beheading by the sword, some doctor with a permision of the king tried to find this out,
so when some criminals head got choped off,he picked it up and put it back on its neck and asked him some questions,
the guys lips moved but couldnt say much, must have been still consious but I guess since all the nerves and veins were cut couldnt really say much.

And on the subject of grim questions regarding decapitation, I have a morality question. When you chop off a chicken's head, it'll run around for a while before collapsing. We all know this.

Would it be immoral to torture the headless body of the chicken before it stopped wiggling?

Wink

I remember reading that one of the doctors in the French revolution asked some of the people about to be beheaded to blink or something at him if they felt the pain, and they did. There must be some small time frame there when the person feels pain and can respond to it.

Geeze...I think I would question the intentions of someone who would do that for any reason other than scientific research...

Those of you who are into the outre things that can be done with a corpse should take a look at this article about an artist who preserves corpses in see-through plastic.
http://www.nymuseums.com/lm011103t.htm

And then there is www.rotten.com, where you can view the latest in gruesome human corpses.
