Demonstrating the built-in commitment that American-based companies have to American values (maybe that should be 'obsolete American values') MickyDs is suing an Italian food critic for saying that their food tastes like, well, fast food:

MILAN, Italy (Reuters) -- McDonald's has sued one of Italy's top food critics for raking its restaurants over the coals, but the critic says he has no intention of going back on saying its burgers taste of rubber and its fries of cardboard.

With the court case ongoing, McDonald's of Italy said Friday the critic's comments were "clearly defamatory and offensive to McDonald's and to the more than 600,000 Italians who each day freely choose to eat in a McDonald's restaurant."

Although the critic is wrong -- the fries taste like salted axle grease to me.

You'd think Mickey D's would have learned their lesson after all the flack they took about the "McLibel" case in England a few years back. I guess not.

They say that the meat in their burgers is 100% beef. That maybe true, but what is the other 99% made of?

In my neck of the woods (Spokane, WA) McDonald's french fries are actually quite tasty. But I fully agree that McD's hamburgers aren't very good.

True, Seem awfully silly to bash a critic for pointing out the obvious that McD's food is plastic and appetizing.

That critic is far too generous, considering that the last time I "ate" a McD product (against my better judgement, I hasten to add), I took one mouthful. Specifically, I took that mouthful straight to the nearest rubbish bin and spat it out, before sending the rest of the burger to join it. I'd say that a McDonald's burger tastes like a thick wad of papier mache that's been swiped through the grease on the bottom of a grill and microwaved. The fries just taste like sticks of congealed fat and salt - I don't believe that they contain any potato at all, unless it's in a homeopathic sense.

Oops. Am I going to be sued? Seriously, is there anybody out there who doesn't think that McFastfood tastes like shit? People don't buy it because it's high-quality food, they buy it because it's cheap and portable and served quickly in bright, kid-friendly packaging. Pretending otherwise is really insulting.

Is mcdonalds great cuisine, of course not.

pretty fucking obvious I would say, however, the fries are really good and the burgers are good in their genre if you will.

cheap fast food. comparing it to a five star restaurant is bullshit.

Maybe one should try stringing them up by the Trade Practices Act. How can something advertised as 100% beef be called a hamburger ?

And why is one if "Italy's top food critics" doing a review of a McDonald's? Yeah, I know that in places like Brewton, Alabama, they might do a write-up on the new McDonald's ("Lord, it's located INSIDE the Wal-Mart! I'm in heaven, Darlene!"), but this is Italy ferchrissake. Is he getting tired of writing about tiramisu and lasagna? *ducking*
