She disappeared your Velvet Underground CD's? I would divorce her

Deep sixed your Velvet Underground CDs? Yes, definitely divorce material. But then again, I like Nico's vocals, for god's sake. Compared to her, Lou Reed is a fucking vocal genius. I say you challenge her to think of one person on the planet who could deliver the lyrics to "Heroin" better than Reed. If she can't, she has to return the CDs. Seems fair to me.

I also want to take issue with the Bob Dylan detractors. True, he's not a good singer in any conventional sense, but he's unique. And I'm not just talking about his nasal delivery. His phrasing is unique and something I cherish. For years, the only version of "Mr. Tambourine Man" that I knew was the Byrds' cover, and I loathed it. Still do. Then I heard Dylan's original version, and the world turned. There is no comparison. In fact, with the exception of Hendrix's cover of "All Along the Watchtower," I'm hard-pressed to think of a single cover of a Dylan song that I prefer to the original.

My pick? The guy from The Violent Femmes.

Well I personally love him, but I know a bunch of twisted people (Arvel!) that can't stand Morrissey's singing and therefore won't listen to the genius that is The Smiths.

My pick: Rolling Stones. Mick Jagger IMO cannot sing worth for anything, but the music is good.

Singing along to Nico [accent and all] is loads of fun.

But I'm weird that way.

Crap, how could I forget AC/DC? I don't mind Bon Scott's voice, actually, but the guy they got to replace him drives me nuts (and not in a good way ).

I'm gonna politely say that you are BOTH insane.

Brian Johnson is the guy who replaced him, and both of them are in my personal top 5 singers ever, with Axl Rose, Dio and Mick Jagger, who I see someone else doesn't like.

I do see how his voice might bother some people though. I just happen to think it rules...being the AC/DC fanatic that I am

Never said I didn't like Bon Scott and Brian.

I just don't think they have very good voices. I'd take their unique voices over most of the crap out now. AC/DC has pretty much sucked since 85-86 IMO. Fly on the Wall was the last album I enjoyed by them.

Blowing in the Wind by Bob Dylan is a great example that with a great song, you can get away with anything, even a terrible voice.

How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
Yes, 'n' how many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, 'n' how many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
Yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
Yes, 'n' how many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
Yes, 'n' how many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
