I love Cash's covers. His "Rusty Cage" is hundred times better than the original.

I too, enjoy a lot of his music. It's really edgy. I never understood, though, how he reconciled his often dark themes with his X-tianity. Say lavee. Lades, HQB |

A constant theme of the blues is the struggle between God and the Devil and this has been addressed by many blues artists (I'm talking about Son House, Robert Johnson, Skip James, Charley Patton and so on). One song could be quite dark and violent yet the next song would be a reworking of a hymn or plea for redemption. I see the same struggle in the music of Johhny Cash and it is quite a common theme. I find such conflicts fascinating in art and quite compelling. Xeluan |

I'm a huge Cash fan. I just really admire the guy's ability to shoot people the finger when needed for some reason. The man takes no shit, and is a long standing member of the country community somehow.
I hate country music as a rule, but when Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash die, I will cry. If you get a chance to see the video to "Hurt" It's really cool. I think he did an amazing job covering that song. He even knew when to END THE SONG, unlike Trent ![]() |
