I clearly misunderstood - when people hereabouts discuss supposed 'fine tuning' they are usually talking about features of our universe supposedly tuned to allow life. "Multiple universes" is one competing explanation for the supposed fine tuning. Planet specific features clearly can't be used in the same way since there are manifestly a huge number of planets in the universe - even if the Earth appears fine tuned to support life it has no bearing on the need for a designer. The necessity for a large moon (for instance) might make intelligent life less common in the universe (something like a Drake equation), but that's not the same as 'fine tuning'. Scientists have to bear in mind the bias in their observations of the universe imposed by the Earth's need to support their existence, but that's a different story. There's no evidence whatsoever that chunks of terrestrial material blasted away from the Earth by meteors have landed on the Moon. Getting material off Mars is just about dynamically possible, Earth's atmosphere is much thicker and its gravity is a lot higher. There are no known meteorites on Earth that originated from the Earth, and yes we could tell. |
