I want someone on IIDB to make absolutely sure that we never have that much bullshit next to people's names. Just a suggestion.

From "creationist mistakes", by the same poster who I quoted earlier:

Quote:
Did you know that every second of every day sixty billion neutrons pass through our bodies without touching a single atom-the very things that make up our bodies? These atoms are swirling around each other constantly. They never touch each other. If they did, it would result in something not unlike spontanious human combustion. And yet they never touch.
Charge.

I hope CelandineBaggins gets a better education in the future, because what they have so far apparently isn't working out too well.

No kidding!

You can always tell a creationist from a non-creationist web site: look for the science.

The creationist sites are all cluttered up with "praise the Lord" and "please give us money to share the gospel." Evolution evidence page: all pure science.

It seems to be that way with the forums as well. I've been reading through some of those links, and hardly anyone actually talks about real science (and those that do are usually IIDB members!)

It looks like you are doing a super job, Rufus. I admire the style and clarity of your posts in those threads. I agree, they do show promise. At the very least they are far more honest than the average creationist.

Celadine backs out of her argument in her second post, lol.

"um, it wasnt my argument, even though i think its true!!!"

or if you want a direct quote:

Quote:
Excuse me...I really do not think you people have the right to get on my case because I posted something that I had read. Why don't you go find the person who wrote it and get on their case and leave me alone! All I did was post something I had found that was interesting and in my opinion entirely true. I think some of you are the ones who need to learn how to think.
I suggest you point her to the modern library, and fast.

Doubtless, she means neutrinos, not neutrons. If that many neutrons were passing through our bodies per day, we'd be crispy critters.

I suppose that no one has ever pointed out to her that an atom is 99.999% empty space.

Just my $0.02.

Cheers,

Michael

In fairness to ChristianForums, though it certainly has a share of YEC clientele, seems a more balanced, open place for science discussion than other religious boards of my aquaintance. Numerous, though probably less than a majority, of its moderators are moderate Christians w/o a stong suspicion of science. I have only observed for about 3 weeks but I sensed a much less fearful-of-outsider environment than at, for example, Baptist Board (where I have posted occasionally under name "Pavel") BTW I always enjoyed reading your posts over there. Was sadnened if not shocked when you all got so abruptly banned. You seemed to try to "keep your feet off the furniture" only to learn that the "furniture" extended to the very floor of the so-called "free-for-all" section. Anyway, first they came for the atheists, then they came for the liberal Christians (me)... back to the topic, I have to agree 100% that CF and others are awfully cluttered with saccharin info and statements by the screen name. Brings to my mind a car with so many bumper stickers plastered everywhere that the driver can hardly see to drive.

Point taken, caritas.

Yeah that whole BB fiasco totally turned me off to christian boards. I finally started reading CF, and while I refuse to post there, I don't mind helping people here with arguments they bring to this board.

Welcome to II by the way!

The really funny thing...

You have more blessings than she does

(what are the blessings for anyway?)

The chances of the earth, much less the entire galaxy, being created by a chance explosion as the result of the collision of some floating space dust (where did the dust come from, anyway?) is the same as the chances of you taking a brand new watch, smashing it to pieces, putting it into a plastic bag and shaking it for a thousand years, and pulling out a brand new watch. It just isn't possible.
Well it's good to know Paley's "watch" meme is alive and well after 200 years. Next we'll be hearing about tornadoes, junkyards, and irreducible mousetraps.
