Default Hindu version of the holy ghost?

Does anyone know if Hindus have a version of something that tells them right from wrong?

it is the little self or "spectator" that is driving the chariot of your mind (read the Bhagavad Gita). Good and evil are coexisting in Hinduism which is less polarized than Christianity, but if you look at the Mahabharata, it is a great example of the battle between good and evil (and remarkably more subtle than many Christian examples).

I earlier found some Christians hostile to the Hindu notion that good and evil coexist (i.e. we live in a "middle" world which has a mixture of both) and that only when evil gets to be too unbearable, does God incarnate to destroy it. What is a Christian's reaction to that notion?
