Default Anti-Iran Protests

I was just watching SBS World News, and there was a story about an "anti-iranian protest outside the white house". There were people waving american flags and carrying placards saying "Stop Talking To Terrorist Regime In Iran".

Has anyone else heard anything about this? This just blows my mind in so many ways. Protesting against a country, for fucks sake!

The only explanation I can think of is that this is the start of the Bush administration's PR campaign to create popular support for yet another invasion. The protest must have been organised by the White House.

Agreed. It is the beginning of a "point the finger at Iran and forget about Iraq" phase for us.

I wouldn't be surprised for two seconds to find the "crowd" was made up of young repub. staffers, interns and the local College/Univ. "Young Republicans club" who were egged on by someone up above...

I didn't see it in the news though-maybe it was just organized for certain propaganda efforts.

wtf is SBS World News? This sounds like a case of media bias.

LOL.

I won't answer DChicken's question, except to point out SBS is extremely good;

however, a note here.
I saw the demonstrators on TV (not SBS, but on WDR3, just to add to certain monoculturalists' confusion), and many were undoubtedly very Iranian-looking.

Moreover, there is a large Iranian community in the USA following the fall of the Shah, and many of them really, really don't like the present regime in Iran.
However, that does not negate the fact that the Bush admin would be only too happy to use these people, as excuse or whatever.

U.S.: Neo-cons Move Quickly on Iran

Yeah, unless it's by Iranian-Americans who sincerely want the Ayatolla overthrown, it sounds like one of the Republicans' notorious phoney protests, just like when they had actors dress up in hard hats.

From the article:
Quote:
Pentagon hawks, particularly Deputy Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and Undersecretary for Policy Douglas Feith, who have long been closely associated with neo-conservatives outside the administration centered at the American Enterprise (news - web sites) Institute (AEI), reportedly favor using the heavily armed, Iraq-based Iranian rebel group, the Mujahadin-e Khalq (MEK), which surrendered to U.S. forces in April, as the core of a possible opposition military force.
Funny how when the terrorists are on our side, they're called 'heavily armed rebels'... Did our government learn NOTHING from Afghanistan and Iraq??????

*sigh* I even found in an old article one of the administration types using saddam's support of this same group as proof that saddam was a supporter of terrorism and had to go...

Also, I don't remember them surrendering, the way I remember it was that they were allowed to keep all their weapons in exchange for committing to only using terrorism on iranian soil....

It brings to mind something I saw on The Daily Show. They aired some clip of Ari Fleischer spewing something ridiculous. Cut to John Stewart with a bewildered look on his face:

"It's like they think we're all retarded."

Yes, I do think the Administration thinks the entire citizenry is gullible, short-sighted, stupid and lazy. Sadly, I'm beginning to think they are right.

The double-speak would be offensive if someone outside of this forum would pick up on it. Sadly, the average Joe won't remember when the MEK were considered terrorists, that the US cut a deal with said terrorists (defacto sponorship of terrorism, IMO) and instead will believe that the MEK are "freedom fighters".

No Eurasia! We're at war with Eastasia, and always have been!

this story...wow....I'm thinking too much at once about what I should say, it just blows my mind. Are we going to try for "regime change"(McDonalds happy play land everything-is-wonderful freedom forever term for "war") there too now? second, It makes me think back about how Iraq was used to disguise the failed war on terror, Afghanistan, the failing economy, and domestic problems. dissent for Iran may be used to disguise the troubled state we put Iraq in. oye vey.
