when you work in an office, and you're one of the only atheists, do you always end up working holidays? Ever since I started working for the office I'm at now, I've worked every single holiday, alone. There are 4 Tech people at my office, and I'm the only one who ever has to work. does this ever happen to anyone else?

This sounds very odd.
Which holidays are you being asked to work? I can understand a boss asking a non-Christian to work on Christmas or Easter so that the Christians for whom those days are important can have those days off for their religious observations, but four times in a row sounds like too much. Even if those days aren't a religious observation for you, being picled each time sounds extremely unfair. Talk with your boss about it and tell him that you've done your part. Even if those days have no spiritual importance to you and you're compensated with other days off, it's not the same as having the same vacations as all your family and friends. Also, is it just religious holidays or secular ones such as Memorial Day as well? Have you been given a reason why you are the one being asked to work? It may just be that the newest person always has to work the holidays or that you're the only one who hasn't complained to him about having to come in. I've never had my atheism be an issue at work and if you are, that's a legal issue. Is the reason you're being asked to work because you're an atheist, though? Please provide a few more details about what's going on. It may be a serious matter of discrimination, or it may be a non-issue. |
