Default number of siblings vs. number of children?

Little pet theory of mine, wanna see if it holds water -

People tend to want families that are the same size as the one they grew up in.

So, poll time - how many siblings do you have?
how many children do you have/want?

(me - 3 for both questions.)

Interesting.
There were three kids (all girls) in my family and I have three daughters.

I'm done procreating.

I had 5 siblings, and my wife had 2. We have 3 kids, and won't be having more.

And no, I didn't want more. Six kids is just too many.

By the way, I don't think you can possibly get enough responses here to test your hypothesis. All you're going to see is that the likeliest condition is that the number of siblings and the number of children will converge on a mean.

My mother's side had 8 siblings, my dad's had 9 (although 2 were twins of whom one died at 10 years old). My parents had me and my brother. On my mom's side, her youngest brother has 2 kids, one has just one daughter, and the rest didn't have kids, unmarried or otherwise. On my dad's side, two had 3 kids each, two had just one (wife died giving birth, the other was divorced), and two have 2 kids, and one never married. It's the perfect demographic transition model.

Joel

Edit: Oh and if I do have kids, it depends on the wife, I'm not bothered either way (although 3 would be the max.)

1 sib, 1 son.

I predict in addition,ChickenGirl, that a large majority will have families equal to or smaller than the size of the ones they grew up in.

Siblings: 0
Planned # of children: 0
Current # of children: 1 (a son- and wouldn't change a thing, now, but don't want any more. It's hard enough keeping up with one!).
