The Man From Ironbark

Is is about a practical jocker, barber.
The practical joke might of backfired on him

Default Uncle Cecil's version

A year or so ago, the "Ask Cecil" column addressed this question for the second time:

Double

Recently, I saw a picture and an article somewhere about a chicken who was being beheaded by a farmer for food, and the hatchet missed the neck. Instead, half the chicken's head was cut off (including the beak and eyes). It survived the chop, and the farmer was able to nurse its wound. It couldn't chew food, so the farmer would feed it with an eyedropper down its throat hole. I think the chicken went on to live many years after that, and would wander aimlessly around the farm.

That would be Mike the Headless Chicken. .

As you can see from this picture, a bit more than half his head was cut off:

I've heard reports of soldiers running into razor wire or some such (during WW1, IIRC), where the decapitated body kept running for several paces afterwards. I imagine it could keep going rather further, but would fall over without the balancing mechanism of the inner ear for fine control.

Makes sense that it would happen, but I've no references, only hearsay, unfortunately.

Cheers, DT

When, oh when will this morbid thread die?

I feel compelled to read each post. Then I am always sorry I did.

Soldiers running into razor wire, and then still running mmm yeah I really wanted to think about that.

Why's Mike always photographed from the right-hand side?

Exclamation Another morbid subject...

In a related question, what would be the least painful way to die? I'll understand if no-one wants to answer...
