Default NPR and Eric Robert Rudolph

Yesterday NPR did a story on Rudolph and his emotional state. They interviewed a number of people including family members, former friends and members of the Murphy, NC police department and the DA's office. The people interviewed all had about the same thing to say, "quiet, reflective loner" you know the usual.

WHat got my attention was the mention of items he requested to be transferred with him to Birmingham, AL for his trial. One of the only items listed was a copy of the Bible. They mentioned this just after mentioning how calm and "introspective" he seemed. Had the suspected terrorist in this case been Muslim and the media reported that he requested a copy of the Koran be transferred with him it would appear as a sign that he was a fundimentalist whacko bent on the destruction of western society. But when mentioning a white Xian male they paint the picture of a thoughtful introspective "bomber" not a terrorist.

NPR ususally is an excellent source of news and info but I was very dissappointed in this report.

Dissappointed how? That NPR didn't stoop to that level. They didn't do it with Muslims and I wouldn't expect them to do that with Christians nor with Atheists.

Regaurdless of his beliefs or what he did or didn't do he is only a suspect and desrves a fair trial, as every citizen does. To sensationalize it, or any other case, deprives him of that fair trial.

What disappointed me was that through the entire story it was never mentioned that it was his funy upbringing that led him to commit terrorist acts in the name of God and that his request to have a Bible sent with him only reinforces this point.
