Radorth, you have put so many words in my mouth on this thread that the only conclusion that I can come to is that you have severe honesty problems. The thesis I have consistently put forth is that the imagery put forth in the passages in questions are ones of violence. Whether of this world or not, it doesn't make a difference to me. I have never put the qualifier earthly before any of them. That, once again, has been your interpretation, not mine.

I repeat, at times, Jesus isn't all that great of a role model.

Oh, and do you now admit that I never equated Jesus and Muhammad, or is this another misstep of yours that you're going just going to ignore.

In fact Durant and Wells seem in agreement that the "sword" represents a severing of all worldly ties and affectations for the Gospel's sake.

-----------

And yet, Jesus upholds "Honor your mother and father" twice in the Gospels. First in an argument with the Pharisees, and second when talking to the rich man. Plus when he's healing people's relatives he never tells them that they need to leave their families.
Perhaps the contradictory passages come from two sources, one containing ethical teachings, the other centered around a more cult-like Church.
BTW the rest of that qoute is actually a qoutation from the Old Testament. Like practically every other NT citation of the OT, it is quite different in it's original context.

I second that this thread is getting heated.

Suggestion:

Formal debate between the major participants. Discuss amongst yourselves and decide who the victims would be, if you agree with this proposal.

I'm done with this thread. I'm fed up with Radorth putting up cariacatures of my position.
