Anyone from California? Los Angeles?
West Hollywood? I love West Hollywood. This is as secular a city as you will find. Christmas is not a city holiday, but Halloween is! And it's a big street party, too! I wanna drive, but it would be super to have a road trip. Anyone else want to go? |

There are a million reasons not to act. But nothing will change unless we change it. I will be there, and hope to bring a boatload of New Englanders with me. And, whether there are 5 people or 500,000, it won't matter. The following year it will grow, and the following year after that, until there is change.
And the March must be only one of a continous, nationwide torrent of activities. We are not the first minority to demand our rights, we can learn from their successful experiences and make change happen. It is not one grand gesture, it is the cumulative pressure of millions of small individual and collective actions that will make it happen. I understand that some are afraid. Do it anyway. I understand that some are tired. Do it anyway. I understand that some are cynical. Do it anyway. Do it so that our children don't have to live a lie. |

As I posted earlier, I am a college student and have to march for a football game that day, so I can't come to Washington. However, I have contacted the president of the Atheist and Agnostic Society at my college to see if we can organize a march on our state capitol for those who cannot make it to Washington. That way we poor college students can still participate, but not make the long trip that is impossible for some of us.

I've got every plan to go! It should be COOL!
This will be the first time that I have been in a group of atheists (freethinkers, agnostics, etc.), even if it is a small number of them. One suggestion for something that we should do is to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Of course, it will be the 1942 version: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." We support the pledge of allegiance, but we do not want to be "under God" NPM |

ATHEISTS, WALK, HIKE, CRAWL,ROLLER SKATE, BICYCLE....DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO BUT COME TO THE MARCH, WE NEED YOU. WE NEED TO SHOW WE AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE ! AS MADALYN USED TO SAY; WE MAY STAND ALONE...BUT WE STAND! I AM DRIVING 1026 MILES AND I WOULD CRAWL ON MY KNEES IF NECESSARY TO BACK THIS IMPORTANT EVENT.

Two ideas that could help our march:
1. Let's cough up a few bucks each and put an ad in our respective local papers advertising the march. 2. Put a bumper sticker for the march on the back of our cars. (has anyone printed them yet?) |

An interesting point about marches and rallies:
Generally, the bigger they are, the safer they are. It's the smaller affairs, organized by desperate or even psychotic little out-groups that are more likely to involve violence, confrontations with police, etc. These things have to do more to grab media attention; if you already have several hundred thousand people in a capitol city in support for your cause, you don't need to do much else. When "bad sh*t" happens at the big events, it nearly always turns out to be some small anti-social group on the margins that planned a dangerous confrontation. I'd say this is still true even in light of Sep. 11; don't let fear of a confrontation hold you back. (& I don't think we're even a radar blip on OBL's screen, so don't worry about that either.) The big things here have always turned out well, and the large numbers they draw make them actually welcomed by local businesses. The city knows how to handle it, and will help people make their statements without blocking traffic. If you don't give yourself a reputation for violent confrontation, no one will be expecting it (the WTO/INF "protest" thing being a big exception; they made themselves known as a protest, not a march or a rally.) Come one, come all! I sure plan to be there! |

I'll be there if I can get enough cash together and I advise others to do the same.
Now is the time to make our voices heard. |
