I sent an email to the Governor's office.
Here's the link if there are any others who want to contact the Az Governor:

Anyone heard of any more recent developments in this? I can't find any news, and I never even got a "Thank you for taking an interest..." email reply to my letter.

Cheers,

I'm going to the (Howard) Dean MeetUp tonight.
Last MeetUp, there was a guy from the Az ACLU there - if he's there tonight, I will ask him regarding this.

Rgds,
Jeff

I'm disappointed but not surprised by Napolitano's decision. You have to remember that she's governing a conservative state that's chock full of Mormon/fundie whackos, and she won the governorship by a tiny margin last fall. Plus she almost certainly has ambitions for higher office.

Yesterday the governor reiterated her position that she won't order the monument removed. According to this short article, today's the deadline the ACLU set for the state to either come up with a removal plan or face litigation.

It looks almost exactly like the 10C's monument that the Fraternal Order of Eagles put up in a city park in La Crosse.

Local freethinkers and seperationists, along with The Freedom From Religion Foundation have been fighting for this monument's removal since 1985.

Yup.

Quote:
The [Arizona] monument was placed in 1964 through the efforts of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, in connection with filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille. DeMille and the Eagles began the project in 1956 in conjunction with promotion of his movie, The Ten Commandments.
Both the La Crosse and Arizona 10C monuments are from the Eagles. I think the only difference is the "donated by" information at the very bottom.

I wonder how much has been spent clearing out these advertising gimmics.
