And I think the device Ebert referred to is Cerebro. Magneto says at one point that he helped Xavier build it, so this is what Ebert could have been referring to. If so, I would agree that it does provide some amazing images. I like the way it gives an impression of the number of mutants on Earth.

For some additional fun, check out the capalert review of X2. In the offenses to God section, it lists off each mutant power. Do these people have any understanding of the notion of fiction? The film isn't trying to portray reality. I also noticed "numerous references to evolution" in the offenses to god section :banghead:
I looked at that site for the first time just now.I want my five minutes back.I sincerely pity the child who has parents that use the site for advice.

I'm pretty sure they'll go with the Phoenix and Sentinels.The Shi'ar or Apocalypse story lines would take at least a couple of more movies to do properly.

I really think the whole sped up story line is due to the fact that there's only three movies in the story arc.However,since I doubt that the original cast will sign on for more than three films,that's likely what they're going for.

As for Juggs,his power source was magical,not a mutation,so I'm not sure if he'd fit properly,at least in the type of movies they've made so far.So it's my guess that he won't be in the next one.

BOBBY'S MOTHER: This is all my fault ...
PYRO: Actually, they've proven that it's the male who carries the gene for mutation. [POINTS TO BOBBY'S FATHER] So it's really his fault.
He learned this at a school run by a professor of genetics?

BTW, from what I've seen, the Pyro character seems to be half St. John Allerdyce, the Australian member of Mystique's Brotherhood, and half Rusty Collins from X-Factor #1.

The other thing that's been bugging me since the first movie...what's so special about Wolverine?
I've heard this criticism more than once, from Roger Ebert, for example. Come to think of it, he and others made the same criticism of the first movie: how can mutants with minor powers consider themselves peers of Storm or Magneto? This was never an issue in the comics, with few exceptions (Doug Ramsey, Psylocke somewhat). Funny to see what gets lost in the translation to the screen.

I was going to correct you and say it was actually Sunfire, but that's Shiro Yoshida. Right you are! Good catch!

I just have to mention that this is the "official" version of the Phoenix, but it is not what Chris Claremont originally wanted. He killed off Jean within the story line because of Marvel.
Note that the original ending of the Phoenix Saga had Jean Grey lose her powers thanks to some mystical/alien doohickey she found on the Moon. Thus, she was spared suicide or execution at the hands of the Shi'ar. The Marvel editors figured she needed to pay for her crimes as Dark Phoenix, so the page was redrawn, and Phoenix died. The alternate ending, however, survives as the backstory for Rachel Summers, who comes from an alternate future where Jean Grey survived the battle on the Moon.

Would you rather she turned into Cyclops?

"how can mutants with minor powers consider themselves peers of Storm or Magneto? "

I would say wolverine's powers, as a super elite fighter who is nearly invincible due to healing powers, is infinitly more valuable to the X-men fighting force than someone like Storm.

Now the real question is why hell was Juibelee ever on the x-men fighting squad? all she can do is break peoples electronic appliances with sparks.

There is one thing that has been bugging me about X2...

At the end of the film, what the hell was Wolvie wearing?! I mean, I'm no Mr. Blackwell, bu that had to have been the ugliest shirt in the history of shirts... I haven't seen Cosby sweaters that ugly. Plus his hair was done up real high... weird....

Ah, Rachel, my red-headed 80s dream girl! When are they going to bring her into the films? I'd love to see her, hairdo and all ...

Just saw it again with my fiance. She spotted that, in the first few scenes, Jean Gray is wearing a pendant. Near as we could see, that pendant is a phoenix.

Odd, that.

As I said to a friend, "Hey, with Mystique around, you could have a threesome with only two people!"

I'd pay lots of good money to see that scene reshot and added to a blooper reel on the DVD release.

This is probably correct, but did you ever read the "What If?" comic that was "What if Jean Grey had lived?"

In it, her Phoenix powers return slowly, and she would sneak off in the middle of the night to go eat some planets. Eventually, the X-Men find out, and she kills each one of them starting with the weakest and working her way up (except that she keeps Cyclops until last). Wolverine ends up as a pile of dust. I have forgotten what happened in the end, whether she killed herself or not.

~~~~snip~~~~
The Phoenix Force kept expanding and expanding, eventually consuming Earth, and expanding still more, to eventually consume the whole universe.
Creepy. Chilling.
The only "What If..." story that was creepier was "What if the Avengers had become pawns of Korvac?"
