You'll have to quote me where I used this phrase--I don't remember using it and I'm not even sure if I would have used it in the original or in one of my replies...

Matt, if you're so certain that you can't believe in anything, what does that have to do with the attitude of the person who precipitated this change? If a pleasant and considerate exchange of views had led you to where you are now, how much better would you be feeling?

If you don't believe and you don't think you will again, just find something else that gives your life meaning other than God. If you don't believe in Him anymore, there's a lot of others things in life that give it meaning. What those are for me and everyone else will be different than what they are for you, so I can't tell you what it would be. There's lots of happy atheists just as there are lots of unhappy theists. We give meaning to our own life, God has nothing to do with it. It's hard when you come to the realization that a major part of our culture and the lives of most of the people around us is based upon fiction. Once you do, though, you can wallow in depression or you can pick yourself up and move on. I suggest the latter. |
