I recently watched Last Tango In Paris on dvd. It was uncut. I was surprised that Marlon Brando was saying all those things and doing what the character did. Who would have thought back in the days of On The Waterfront he would do something like that about 15 years later.
Other such things include James Spader in The Secretary, jerking off on Maggie Lyllenhall's(?) back. Sting in Brimstone and Treacle raping a disabled girl. Marina Sirtis has done a few nude scenes. She was Troi on Star Trek TNG for those who might not know. Any others? |

I thought all James Spader did was sexually disturbing films. Did you see Crash?

I thought about them for a moment, but really the stars didn't have very racy parts, if I remember correctly. The movie was really dvided into two discrete parts: the "epic" and the "porno".
The actors (and I use that term loosely) in the porno part were truly dreadful. I remember one scene where one porn starlet couldn't even play dead convincingly. Jeff |

I was thinking more that the characters they were playing were racy. Like Peter O'Toole (I think it was...I've tried to block the movie out...too disturbing) floating around with a bunch of kids in the pool...so weighed down by the debauchery of decades that he could barely move and was incapable of summoning up much of a will to live.
And Helen Mirren's role...from the very first scene she was in. I thought it was pretty racy for any actor to take on just about any role in that film just because of the overall tone of the movie and it's subject matter. (Though it probably didn't help that I read way too much Seutonius in high school. ![]() |

If I recall, the movie actually was intended to be a lofty epic, but that its producer decided that what it really needed to be good, alas, was sex. So half-way through it, they tacked on the pornography.
Hence, I believe that a lot of the talented actors in there (I didn't even know Mirren was in it ... I'm almost tempted to watch the movie again -- yuck! --- just to see her!) probably didn't realize what kind of a movie it was destined to become. I suspect that if they had, virtually none of them would have appeared in it. The pity is that having just read the two Claudius books, I realize now how good that movie could have been if they had done it right. Caligula's Rome was a very scary place indeed and could have made a really good drama. Jeff |
