Quite a good game but not a First Person Shooter.

Default Hey now...

I really enjoyed Max Payne as well. The dream sequences were genuinely terrifying.

RPG: Ultima VII - a nightmare to get running, but unparalleled freedom and storyline

Graphic Adventure: Gabriel Knight 1

C64 gaming was my golden age of computer experience. Ultima 1-5, Bard's Tale 1-3, Wizard's Crown 1 & 2, Questron, Might and Magic, and Wasteland. For non-RPG, you had MULE, Bruce Lee, Impossible Mission, et al.

My first graphic RPG game was Temple of Apshai. Anyone remember it in its original form? 15 minutes load time from tape, and you had to read the rooms' descriptions from the manual.

However, I do consider Ultima VII parts 1 & 2 to be the best computer RPG of all time. Best MMORPG is Ultima Online (as observed over the past four years' worth of playing).

Hey, I thought that slow motion/ bullet time thing was pretty damn cool.
Hated that blood trail part though.

I don't play as many games as I used to and most all my favorites have been listed already but I will name a couple that stand out.

Half Life blew me away the first time I played it. I bought a new video card just for that game.
Where is Half Life 2? What is taking so long? Its been like 20 years Valve, come on.

Thief/Thief 2 Playing this late at night in a dark room and the volume turned up was creepy fun. I look forward to the next one.

Couple more

RTS used to be my favorite genre but pretty bored with those now. The Command and Conquer/ Red Alert series or Age of Empires would be my favorite. I prefer the (somewhat) real world settings over fantasy.

I haven't played many RPG games but Fallout 2 and Diablo stand out.

Adventure: The Longest Journey was pretty damn good.

Don't like sports games and haven't played MMORPG but my favorite online game was the original Tribes. Man, that kicked ass.

xstvn: Don't hold your breath waiting for Thief 3, since LGS went under a few years back. I dunno about Thief, since I never played/followed it, but there's a big question mark over who owns another LGS franchise, System Shock. SS2 was a joint LGS/Irrational Games production published by EA. Last I heard both Irrational and EA believe they own the rights to System Shock but since neither are interested in producing a third game, ownership hasn't been tested out in court yet. Wouldn't surprise me if Thief was in a similair boat.

Thief 3 and Deus Ex 2 are being developed at Ion Storm ,led by Warren Specter who I believe was also the producer of System Shock. I think they got all the legal problems straightened out (for Thief anyway) and many of the former LGS people are now at Ion Storm. I could be wrong though.

A quick search shows that game journalists have been shown parts of Thief 3 as recently as 3 weeks ago. No info on release dates though

T3 and DE2 are probably too much for my poor computer.
Time to upgrade again
bah
