Default Al Qaeda's Long Haul Freight Driver

http://www.cnn.com/2003/LAW/06/19/al...lea/index.html

So let me get this straight. The American military, so lauded for their action in Afghanistan and Iraq, cannot find this 6'5" Arab man on dialysis. But this "hardworking truck driver" can meet with him?

I'm so confused right now.

Al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is in U.S. custody, told interrogators that Faris was ordered to perform surveillance of the Brooklyn Bridge with the ultimate goal of cutting its cables, sources told CNN.
And what did Mohammed gain from informing on this plot? Is this a case of if we lighten your sentence will you give us names? If so I find that info to be highly questionable.

I am not doubting that the Justice Dept is wrong I just want to know why a man as ideologically opposed to the US would decide to assist us in halting his plans to destroy us.

Well, Here what I posted as a separate thread:

Impressive,

An American Pakistani was going to cut the suspension wires of the Brooklyn bridge with an acythelene torch!!
I have now a whole new insight in the professionalism of Al Quada.
For a acythelene cutter to do any decent work one needs two heavy gasbottles, one for oxygene and one for acythelene. The cutting torch makes a sharp hissing sound and gives a lot of light and sparks. For a job like this bridge, one acythelene bottle surely would not suffice. Bringing these bottles into location would hardly go unnoticed. We are talking here hours of cutting.
And does anyone think the bridge is hanging on one cable only??
The whole operation would be as in-obtrusive as naked dancing on top of the statue in Trafalgar square in winter.
These guys are real professionals.
What is next? They might try to dismantle the empire state building stone by stone without anyone noticing??
Rediculous!!

From what I've heard, the guy was apparently supposed to do it, but he went and looked at the situation, and called the whole thing off because he figured there's no way he could actually accomplish it. Smart boy.

Ummmm... they didn't try the plot. They decided it wasn't doable. I'm confused what your point is, since it lacks any congruence to the facts of the story.

It's called "timeline" Chuck, This truck driver is said to have met with Bin Laden in 2000 in Afghanistan. That would have precluded the US military action there. I hope this clears up your confusion.

Ah yes, the "timeline." From the FBI website:

USAMA BIN LADEN IS WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE AUGUST 7, 1998, BOMBINGS OF THE UNITED STATES EMBASSIES IN DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA, AND NAIROBI, KENYA. THESE ATTACKS KILLED OVER 200 PEOPLE. IN ADDITION, BIN LADEN IS A SUSPECT IN OTHER TERRORIST ATTACKS THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

http://www.fbi.gov/mostwant/topten/fugitives/laden.htm

The date on the poster is June, 1999. I hope this clears up your confusion.
