What's he going to say..."All those people aren't in pain, medical practitioners are often mistaken about pain." or even better--"hey my sister's a doctor, so I know that pain doesn't hurt, unless you don't believe in gawd...."

As far as I can tell, I've never seen him use common sense or hard data to support a single argument...just rhetoric.

I agree. Perhaps dk would like to take their place? And if 'suffering is good for people' why doesn't he take steps to ensure the benefits of pain? And does that mean that Xians go to hell and baddies (unbelievers) go to heaven?

Bingo. My life belongs to ME and no one else. I hope never to be in a position where I want to end it myself. But if it turns out like that, may the fundies' god save them if they try to get between me and a dignified death of my own choosing.

If your dignity entails suicide nobody can stop you. You want to ritualize suicide with a witch doctor. I already said I'm for mortician assisted suicide.

Then why do you oppose DOCTORS helping if they wish to? No one would be forcing them either way.

Because I don't like the idea of doctors prescribing death as a cure for pain, old age or cancer. I want doctors, health care system and the medical science to solve problems with life affirming solutions. If pains, cancer and old age pose a medical problem, then lets solve the problems because that's how nations grow and prosper. Nations that kill people to solve problems beget a culture of death.

Did a 'culture of death' come about after the US and Europe went to war in the 20th century? Bear in mind that the US had the death penalty long before that, so that's not a cause.

Hey, at least we partially agree on something! I don't give a DAMN who assists, as long as they are there and do their duty to humanity when it's necessary! Try the slippery slope on another argument, it doesn't work for euthanasia...Oregon proved that...ashcroft(twit at large) notwithstanding.

Complete and total misrepresentation of the issue. Doctor assisted suicide occurs only when the patient asks the doctor for it. In Oregon you need to get something like three different doctors to agree before the drugs are prescribed. Doctors are not allowed to advocate or suggest suicide.
