Default Coffee & caffeine question

Is the amount of caffeine in coffee affected by the strength of the roast? I've started getting expresso roasted beans because I like a really strong coffee and am wondering if I am upping my caffeine intake in the process.

At one point I was told by a coffee roaster that the darker roasts have less caffeine, because the roasting process destroys some (which makes some sense if you think about it.)

I think that the method of preparation has more to do with the strength than the roast. Some methods extract more caffeine from the beans.

But it's been a while since I've drunk coffee.

As a coffee roaster:

Darkness of the roast has no effect on the amount of caffeine. Caffeine content is determined by the type of bean.

Caffeine decomposes at 237 C while coffee beans are roasted at 200 C so there is no loss due to roasting.

It is a common misconception that an expresso has more caffeine. A shot of expresso has the same a mount of caffeine as a cup of coffee, just more per volume.
