Cool it hinduwoman. Yoga is polular in atheist circles as a substitude for religion and a way to surpress anxiety and feelings of forlorn hope.

Who exactly do you think you are speaking for? A substitute for religion? Did you miss the part where my instructor is a devout christian? I, on the other hand, have no religion and am not looking for a substitute.

Yoga is physical exercise. Where is the physical exercise part of religion that yoga attepts to substitute? And where to do you come up with "supress anxiety and feelings of forlorn hope"? I didn't know it was possible for hope to be forlorn, but mine certainly isn't. My hope is as happy as can be, and does not need to be supressed. As far as anxiety, yoga is a positive way to deal with and release anxiety, not supress it. Where do you come up with your facts?

You don't need facts to temper the excitement of hinduwoman.

Pardon? I really don't understand this response to my post. I do not want them taught New Age beliefs. I do not think that superstition is harmless. Also, my kids are not brought up the same as I was. There experience with Christianity is different than mine, less traumatic. I have no desire to remove them from church or their beliefs as long as they wish to believe.

I practiced yoga while a Christian. It did not cause me to dissent from my faith. It is a form of relaxation. It also is beneficial to physical health. I don't really understand why Christians oppose yoga. Most Christians who do practice meditate on God.

Yours was superstition, theirs is not. Yours was harmfull, theirs is not. New age beliefs are harmless and if anything a good defense against Christian fundamentaism because it short circuits the unjustified idea of self acquired salvation.

That is how you went wrong and solidified the Church's warning against yoga. It is as Darth Dane put it: "What they want determines what they get."

That should bring in even more 'converts' to yoga.
