I'm not sure where regard for the hurt of theists enters the picture. I only object to what I saw as a painting of a barbarous faith, without apparent recognition of the barbarity of other faiths. I don;t mind an attack on any and all faiths, I do object to the singling out of one as unusually so, especially in the present geopolitical climate.

Sahi Hadiths state clearly that Ayesha was 6 years old when she was married and 9 when the marriage was consummated. Saudah Bint. Muhammad was not quiet as above sex as the apologists would have us believe. Incidentally being embarrassed about Mohammed's sexlife is a modern trend. So we end up by having Quran only Muslims who insist that Hadiths are corrupted. The problem is without the background provided by Hadis many of the verses do not make proper sense:

Q. 66: 1-5.
1. O Prophet! Why do you ban that which All�h has made lawful to you, seeking to please your wives? And All�h is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
2. All�h has already ordained for you , the dissolution of your oaths. And All�h is your Lord and He is the All-Knower, the All-Wise.
3. And when the Prophet (SAW) disclosed a matter in confidence to one of his wives so when she told it , and All�h made it known to him, he informed part thereof and left a part. Then when he told her thereof, she said: "Who told you this?" He said: "The All-Knower, the All-Aware (All�h) has told me".
4. �If ye two turn in repentance to Him, your hearts are indeed so inclined; But if ye back up each other against him, truly Allah is his Protector, and Gabriel, and (every) righteous one among those who believe,- and furthermore, the angels - will back (him) up.�
5. It may be if he divorced you (all) that his Lord will give him instead of you, wives better than you, Muslims believers, obedient to All�h, turning to All�h in repentance, worshipping All�h sincerely, fasting or emigrants (for All�h's sake), previously married and virgins. �

The Hadiths explain that Muhammad promised Hafsa not to have sex with her slavegirl Miriyam. But he did so. Hafsa came home early to find her husband in bed with her maid. Hafsa revealed this to Aisha and both were very rude to him. So Allah came to his rescue. The first two verses are reference to this oath by Muhammad: he had the right to enjoy a slavegirl and he need not keep oaths. The later verses scold the two wives for being rude and threaten them with replacement by more dutiful wives given to him by Allah. In fact Allah was so angry that he threatened to have Muhmmad divorce all his wives for better models.
