The Us and UK have made lots of movies about nuclear wars back when the Cold war was going on. Movies such as the Day After, Invasion USA, Failsafe, Threads, On the Beach, Red Dawn (sort of), and Testament are pretty good.
However, as far as anyone knows, did the Russians or Eastern Europeans ever make any movies about a nuclear war? |

My favorite movie was "King Dinosaur", where, to kill the dinosaur, they blew up an entire island with a nuclear bomb. And then said- in complete earnest- "We brought civilization to Planet Nova".

It's from the UK, but When the Wind Blows is one of the best nuclear war movies I've seen next to Dr. Strangelove. Creepy as hell. A true horror movie.

Invasion USA is best seen with the full MST3K treatment. "Will the dancing Hitlers please get to their places?"
Another MST3K goodie is Rocket Attack USA, featuring Tor Johnson Jr. and the most hapless pack of inept spies to (dis)grace the silver screen. |

Actually I just watched another MST3K from the 50's... "It Conquered the Earth". But it was pretty good. It was a "body snatchers" type movie, but instead of it being anti-communist propaganda, it had... anti-religious undertones. Or overtones. Or half baked claptrap. But at least it was different. It ended with this hillariously serious monolouge...
Man is a feeling creature, and because of it the greatest in the universe. He learned too late for himself that men have to find their own way, to make their own mistakes. There can't be any gift of perfection from outside ourselves. When men seek such perfection they find only death, fire, loss, disillusionment and the end of everything that's gone forward. Men have always sought an end to our misery but it can't be given, it has to be achieved. There is hope, but it has to come from inside, from Man himself. Oops, I hijacked the thread. |
