6-7 in a mile? Ouch. I'd say 3-4 per mile here is the average around most of this city. Then you've got 6-10 of the really really BIG ones. Bigger than a football stadium big. Retractable roof big. 20,000 members big.

San Diego Atheist, mind if I use the word "fundified" from time to time?

Oh, he's not kidding. Trust me. I only have about 3 or so because I'm close to campus. The campus takes up a big chunk of that space, as does the apartment complexes and Frenchtown (the rough part of town...I don't want to venture in there to find out if there is a church or not). I don't even want to count how many churches there are. There are slightly less than 8 pages of yellowbook listings for the various churches. Sure, some of them aren't in the Tallahassee area, but a good number of them are.

I agree with Liquidrage. Definitely not Tallahassee. The whole panhandle is very fundy with hot spots in Marianna and Panama City. Hovid is located in Panama City. Every place I have worked except the state of Florida has had fundie recruiters. At one job it was my boss. I have had a client try to recruit me several times. They mean well but just can't/won't understand an atheist's right to think as they wish. They are convinced they posses the truth and can't understand why anyone would not accept it. I do not let them know what I think of their beliefs because I am sure it would sour the relationship. I guess that is why I am so hard on the Christians that frequent this forum. It is my chance to let a Christian know how silly I think they are. It is unfair to some of the Christians here but if I detect just the slightest hint of recruiting off come the gloves.

Hovind is in Panama City? Fuck. Fuck. Motherfuck. God damn mother fucking shit. Fuckit. My hometown where I grew up is near PC. You are spot on as to how fundy they are. I didn't think they were so terribly fundified that Hovind was based there, though.

Dammit...you just screwed up an otherwise good day.

Wait a sec, his website says Pensacola. Still in Florida, but at least he's farther away from me.

Not sure why I guessed Tallahassee.

There are a few good cities in Texas - I think Corpus Christy, Austin and to some extent El Paso and Houston. Dallas, Ft. Worth, Waco and San Antonio are, IMO, most conservative.

Here, if you worship the Dallas Cowboys you might be forgiven for your atheism. This town has me for two strikes. Three if you include third party voter.

His Dinowhateverland is only a few miles from my house. I've driven by there a couple times, but haven't gone in yet. I'm not sure whether I should play pretend-fundie, or try to start shit. Pensacola is also home to the Brownsville Revival. Bleah.

I live in Berkeley. The Bay Area is secular for all intensive purposes, though that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of churches. In fact, there are plenty of churches (I'm sandwiched between a Lutheran and Catholic church on one side and a Hindu temple and Christian Science church on the other side. Yes, that's 4 churches in less than a block. I can't predict a mile. Well over a dozen for sure. More than half the student groups are religious in nature. That being said, Berkeley (and all Bay Area) politics are completely secularized so far as I can tell.

Oh wow, that must suck. I would be tempted to visit that place if I lived there, but only if I was in a sadistic mood and was bored at the same time.
