Last summer I haad Staplles installl a new graphics card for me. Well, A few months a go we had computer problems and had to use the QuickRRestore CD that came with the computer and we were told to remoove the new graphics card so we didd.
Today I asked hubby if he could put the new graaphiics card back in because my new Seea Monkeys CD kkeeps locking up if my Sea Monkeys have more than 6 babies. He saiid he could and now the compuuter is totally fucked up. I'm wondering if he should have uninstalled the old caard first? Can we still do it? The resolution is shit and the dialoog boxx says to pick which monitor wee want to use and we only have one. The screen savr doesn't come up eeither. Help!! Please! I'm having a hard time seeing what I'm typing so I hope it's not too mesed up and I hoop that youu can unerstand what I neede. Thankss! |

You probably just need to install the right driver for the new graphics card.
Do you still have the CD that came with the card? If you don't you can probably just download the drivers anyway, but you do need to know what card you have. Try to get that CD, or find out what card you have. The CD will probably have a manual on how to install the driver. Shai-Hulud |

Pretty much, install a piece of hardware and you must install the driver also. I've never uninstalled a driver other than when I had to remove it to keep it from auto-installing when it saw the hardware.

If it's asking which monitor to use then it is thinking each graphics card is working, so it seems best to remove the card not being used. Try running in Safe mode with VGA.

Also, if your PC has video integrated on the motherboard you might want to go into the BIOS at boot and disable that, so it only sees your new video card.
What operating system are you running? Win98 and later (IIRC) all support the use of dual monitors/dual video cards. So the "which monitor do you want to use?" question is probably because with two video cards detected in the system Win may want to know which one is to be the primary monitor. BTW, I use two monitors at home with a Matrox dual-head video card and IT IS WONDERFUL. I can't wait for 19" LCDs to get really cheap so I can replace my two 17" Nanao T2-17TS monitors (the first one cost me a grand, but when I bought the second one as a discontinued model it was under $300 - very nice monitors). cheers, Michael |

Thanks for your help.
We're running Win98 and I had Staples install the new Graphics Card and I'm not sure where the install CD is. We're still in the process of moving and hopefully the box didn't get thrown. I'll be going to the house sometime this week and see if I can find it. |

I'm running 3 monitors right now. I've got another plug on the back of the computer but no way to arrange a 4th on the desktop. |

OK, I had to ask.
Why in the world do you need to run more than one monitor simultaneously? ![]() |
