Most of the suggestions made are great, particularly the part about getting transfer of credits IN WRITING. If you play it right, you can save a lot of money with the CC option, however, you do miss out on a lot of campus life, i.e. fraternity/sorority, football games, dorm/apartment life, you just have to decide what is important. If you are undecided as to what curriculum you want to enroll in, first cross off all the things you know that you do not want to do, you'll probably be surprised at the small number of choices you have left.

All good points so far, and as such, I'm not sure what accounts for the poll results...

Just to reiterte - make sure the courses will transfer.

One point - some disparage CC eduction as 'lower level' and the like. I assume this is due to the fact that many CCs offer courses like basket weaving and such (yes, some really do). It is, after all, called a "Community College", and some communities are into that.

That being said, the "important" courses - your sciences and math and such - are often taught by real live University professors moonlighting for some extra cash, or by former university profs that got tired of the University politics, or moved, or whatever.

I took several classes at a CC when I first went back to school, and all of my science courses (chem, anatomy, math) were taught by profs from Michigan State (the CC was in Lansing, MI).

I teach at a local CC as well (for vacation money), and I use the same text, same notes/outlines, etc. for my CC classes as I do for my University classes.
