Just saw the ad on ABC. Jim Carrey gets to be God for a week. Looks like fun. Anybody know anything about this flick?

Only the extended trailer in theaters. It looks like it could be a lot of fun, plenty of opportunities for sacrilege.
![]() I'm a little worried about the "moral" that these comedies all have in some form. I'm betting it'll be some kind of refutation of argument from evil. Maybe not, but I'm betting it'll make some attempt to prop up xianity. |

Ah yes... the omnipotent, omniscient God of Christianity allows evil to be in the world so Jim Carrey can use it for sight gags.

Jim plays a whiner. God(morgan freeman)calls him up for a meeting and says you whine to much, you think you can do better, you have my powers for a day. So Jim(Bruce) takes the powers and for one day does nothing but make his own life better. God gets pissed and gives him the powers "for good". Jim learns about suffering and helping people.
The one person who I have heard read the script says it is hysterical. Unfortunately that makes me fear that it will be shallower than Hal. |

Personally, I think it looks dumb, but then I'm not a big Carrey fan. The thing that really cinched it was the scene of the dog with the newspaper on the toilet. Please!
![]() I wonder if any religious groups will boycott it for showing god as a black man? ![]() |

I think this will be a concept with alot of potential gone wrong with the usual Hollywood schlock.
They will pass up the best opportunities for fear of offending people. So that leaves them with lame sight gags like the dog using the toilet or bigger boobs on Jennifer Anniston. I predict the film will end with Bruce seeing the light and having some oh so predictable "come to Jesus" moment. Hopefully I'm wrong. Hopefully Jim Carrey will do the right thing and step on some toes and throw concern for offense out the window. |

Besides, I think most of em would recognize that an all powerful god can appear as anything he damn well pleases. If he shows up and says [religion that is not Christianity] is the one truth faith on the other hand..... |

And what exactly is wrong with that. I'd pay the $8.00 for 90 minutes of her boobs. ![]() |

I saw the trailer for this when I went to see... I think it was LOTR2... the whole time I just sat there shaking my head and wondering when Hollywood gave up all pretense of caring about quality and sold its soul to the Almighty Dollar.
Hollywood scraped through the bottom of the barrel a long time ago. I think they must be halfway to China by now :banghead: |
