Well, this is not limited to the US, but it is present everywhere the television has completely taken over as a pass time from reading a book.

This reminds me of a time I visited a friend of my GF(at the time). We sat there quietly for about an hour watching her try to assemble a small, very simple(three legs, three screws, and the top) table, using the instructions provided.

At the time I had a temp job assembling office furniture, but I didn't say so 'cause it was funny watching what abstract artworks she could come up with. Once she asked me what I did for a living, and I told her...well, if looks could kill...

Anyway, I ended up putting it together in a couple of minutes. And the instructions were extremely simple, but really unnecessary.

I guess it just goes to show that some people have absolutely no clue about following instructions. It's funny when it's something like this, but when it comes to more important things like child seats, that's just plain scary.

Just to make you all feel better there was a story yesterday in the news about an English teacher somewhere in Britain who was handed an essay from a 13 year old written entirely in the shorthand you would use sending an sms on your mobile phone. Now that is cringeworthy. Imagine that kid trying to fill out a job application form in years to come???

(Let's Play) USA
Peter Schilling

Where oh where is Mickey Mouse?
Live and well in the White House.
What's the word on common sense?
It's been sitting on the fence.

Have you seen the Mastermind?
Someone's bashed it from behind.
Leaders saints and honest men
Whats become of them today?
Let's play USA, let's play USA.

How I love the life I lead
Cannot think and cannot read
Watch our values slip away
Play the game of USA.

Even though we lost the race
to get the first man into space
We will be the first country
to run automatically.
Soon the robots we create
will be starring on the Great White Way.
Let's play USA, let's play USA.

How I love the life I lead
Cannot think and cannot read
Watch our values slip away
Play the game of USA.

Won't it be a lot of fun?
Every man will own a gun.
Shoot the ones who spoil the view,
Makes a point that bothers you.
Go on and pollute the land
Clean air will be sold in cans.
Did you hear the master plan?
One nation under Disneyland!
Let's play USA, let's play USA.

How I love the life I lead
Cannot think and cannot read
Watch our values slip away
Play the game of USA!

I couldn't speak spanish to save my life, however, I took 12 hours in college plus 2 years in high school and I can read Spanish instructions. They seem to be written in the vocab words they teach you.

Where I live we now have clinics in parking lots for parents (with appointments) to show up in their vehicles with their car seats so someone else can install them properly. Oh and of course news crews are on the scene reporting live!
